2018 Craft Apprentice Scheme

We have launched our 2018 Craft Apprenticeship scheme and are looking for talented and highly motivated individuals to join our workforce.

“Our people are at the heart of our business success,” says Phil Swift, WPD Operations Director, “and our apprentices of today will be our skilled staff of tomorrow – safely delivering outstanding levels of customer service and operational performance for our customers.”

With the business operating 24/7, 365 days a year, we are committed to providing the most high-quality training and guidance, to help each individual excel in their role and succeed in a long-term career within the company.

The Craft Apprenticeship Scheme is aimed at recruiting enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to operate in three main roles: working on overhead lines, as jointers on the underground cable network and as fitters working on switches and transformers in substations.

The core training for these positions can take anywhere between 18 months and two years to complete, over which time the apprentices will have gained extensive hands-on experience, and also achieved the City & Guilds 2339 Level 2 qualification in Electrical Engineering. This highly regarded qualification will then allow apprentices to progress onto a full-time career with ourselves, good opportunities for career progression and a competitive working salary.

The closing date for this scheme is 12 February 2018.
