A tree-mendous effort

Colleagues from our Melton team in Lincolnshire have built and decorated a very special Christmas tree this year.

The ‘pylon’ tree was adorned with WPD-related decorations as well as LED lights and was displayed at St Mary’s Parish Church as part of the Melton Mowbray Christmas Tree Festival.

L-R WPD’s Louise Chartlon, Mark Baxter, Rosie Richardson, Kelly Emmerson and Colin Merritt with the pylon ‘tree’.

WPD Fitter Phil Saunders, who constructed the ‘tree’ in his garage at home said: “The design is based on an old-fashioned 33kV tower. It’s made from plywood and painted silver, and it took about three weeks to make in my spare time.”

The 'pylon' tree joined around 1,200 others at the festival, all decorated by local schools, businesses and community groups, in what is thought to be one of the biggest Christmas tree festivals in the country.

Following the festival, the tree will be displayed at our Grantham office.
