Awards shine a light on education stars

We have helped some of the best teaching staff at schools and colleges in Gwent to be rewarded for their efforts.

We sponsored two categories at the South Wales Argus Schools and Education awards – Lifetime Achievement and the Further Education Lecturer of the Year.

WPD Corporate Communications Officer Karen Welch, who was one of the judges and who attended the awards ceremony said: “The standard of entry was extremely high, and it was difficult to choose the winners. All of the nominations were very worthy so congratulations to everyone who was shortlisted.”

Seventy-year-old Catherine Arnold from St Julian’s Primary School, Newport, won the Lifetime Achievement Award for her dedication after serving over 35 years as a school support officer.

Gareth Pugh from Coleg Gwent won the Further Education Lecturer of the Year award. He was described as going above and beyond and making his lessons enjoyable and exciting.
