Flood Training

A group of linesman, craftsmen and a technician from the Swansea area have become the latest WPD staff to undertake training as part of our flood prevention measures.

The group took part in a two-day training course called Rescue 3 Swift Water and Flood First Responders at the White Water Rapid Centre in Cardiff, run by Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

WPD Linesman Elliott Jones who took part explained: “There were nine of us on the course, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The first day was spent in a classroom where we learnt about the dangers of currents, flood water and some of the hazards that can be associated with flooding.

“On the second day we were in the water all day. It was quite intensive, especially working in the rapid currents. We learnt a lot and now have a much better insight into what to expect. I think it was one of the best courses I have ever been on.

“We all came away feeling more confident and were presented with a certificate. We gained a lot more knowledge about how we should respond to a flooding situation should we be called upon.”
