Heading high to replace power lines

Engineers with a head for heights have been carrying out work to replace power lines on a 132,000 volt circuit that runs between Halesowen and Kitwell.

The month–long project is being carried out as part of a £400,000 investment by local electricity distributor, Western Power Distribution (WPD).

Working at a height of over 100feet, specialist tower Linesmen are replacing nearly 2km of power lines as well as carrying out maintenance to 7 steel tower structures.

Once complete, the project will help to further safeguard supply reliability to nearly 30,000 homes and businesses in Cradley Heath, Old Hill, Blackheath, Hurst Green, Hayley Green, Hunnington and Wollescote.

The work, which forms part of WPD’s annual inspections and maintenance programme, is being completed without any disruption to electricity supplies.

“It ensures that we can provide a high level of service to these areas in the long term by improving the infrastructure and security of our electricity network,” said Projects Engineer Danny Kelly.
