Ho Ho Ho and a charity Santa run

Western Power Distribution (WPD) helped put the spark into Christmas by supporting Acorns and over 600 runners for the charity’s annual Santa Run, as well as a number of other charities in what was a busy weekend of charity fundraisers.

Seven members of staff took part in the WPD-sponsored Acorns Santa Run, which took place at Brindleyplace in Birmingham city centre on Saturday 6 December.

The event saw over 600 fundraisers in Santa suits get sponsored to run around Brindleyplace for the charity, helping it continue in its work providing care for local life-threatened and life-limited children and young people and their families.

The speedy Santas took part in either a 5k run, or a 2k Santa Stroll for those who wanted to take things a little slower.

Carl Ketley-Lowe, Birmingham South East Team Manager for Western Power Distribution, said: “It was great to get dressed up as Santas with my colleagues for the run. The fancy dress really adds a festive sparkle to the event and we had a lot of fun!

“Western Power Distribution was delighted to support Acorns Children’s Hospice through sponsorship of the event. We know the important work the charity does with children, young people and their families, so it’s a pleasure to be able to play a role in contributing towards that work.”

Shujea Khatun, major events officer at Acorns, said: “A big thank you to Western Power Distribution for their sponsorship at this event which means all money raised by participants goes directly to our work providing care for local children and their families.”

The weekend also saw WPD sponsor the St David’s Hospice Pudding Run in Cwmbran, the St. Giles Hospice’s Rudolph Run in Tamworth and the Myton Hospice Santa Dash in Coventry.

“Western Power Distribution operates across the Midlands, South West England and South Wales and we want to support the areas and communities that we serve. Our sponsorship means that all money raised can go to benefit the charities which is so vitally important to so many families,” said Michael Clarke, WPD’s Corporate Communications Officer.
