'Look Up - Look Out'

Stay safe when building bonfires and setting off fireworks – that’s the message from safety advisors at Western Power Distribution (WPD), the electricity distribution network operator for the region.

With bonfire night approaching, those building bonfires or planning firework displays are urged to do so in the daylight so that hazards such as overhead power lines and electrical substations can be seen more easily.

WPD’s Community Safety Advisor, Eileen Leadley said: “Heat from bonfires or fireworks may cause damage or disrupt power supplies if they come into contact with overhead lines, so please remember to ‘Look Up – Look Out’.

“Safety is WPD’s number one priority and we work with schools and community groups across the region to make sure people know how to stay safe around our network.

“If you spot a hazard like an unlit bonfire close to an overhead line, please call us on our 24 hour emergency number 0800 6783 105 and one of our safety advisors will be pleased to check it out.”
