New substation for Bewdley

Work to install a new substation and underground electricity cables in Bewdley Town Centre is due to start on October 19, 2015.

We have been asked to carry out the work which will take around three weeks to complete in advance of a nearby new development. Between October 19-23 traffic lights will be in place on Dowles Road/Dog Lane to enable the work to be carried out safely by our contractors Morgan Sindall.

No work is due to be carried out over half term week in order to minimise disruption to the town centre.

Work will then recommence on November 2. Load Street next to the junction with Welch Gate will be closed until November 4. This is to allow connection of the new cables, signed diversions will be in place.

Matt Bailey, WPD’s Team Manager for the Kidderminster area, said: “While this work is being undertaken, our aim is to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum. We have been speaking with Worcestershire County Council, Bewdley Town Council and the Highways Agency to agree on a cable route and road diversions which create the least disruption for traffic flow in the area. We have also kept customers and business along the route informed by letter.”

“A drop in clinic is also being held on September 2 and 4 at the town museum between 10:00 and 14:00 where members of staff will be on hand to deal with any enquiries about the work,” added Matt.
