The awards recognise and celebrate volunteers who give up their time and provide their skills to support the charity, which currently has more than 2,000 volunteers across Wales and England. In the last year they have provided 300,000 hours for fundraising, volunteering in shops and at events, and helping to run support services.

Laura is keen fund-raiser and a member of two of the charity’s Sing with Us choirs – Pontypridd and Cardiff North.

Since 2012, after losing her mother to cancer, Laura has worked tirelessly to raise funds. She has taken part in bucket collections and fancy dress events, and is always ready to support, help and comfort the many friends she has made at the charity.

Last year, she lost her sister Denine to the disease, prompting her and her son Gabriel to sign up for a fund raising bike ride in Vietnam and Cambodia.

WPD’s Karen Welch who presented Laura with her award said: “She thoroughly deserves the accolade. She’s a great fund-raiser and a truly inspirational woman who has shown great determination and commitment to such a worthy cause.”
