The Good Samaritan

Three colleagues from Cwmbran have been praised for their actions after coming to the rescue of a young car accident victim.

Driver Lauren Davies, 23, from Croesyceiliog, praised Mike Williams, Phil Jones and Conal Mills for stopping to help her after several motorists had driven past without stopping. She described the incident as one of the worst days of her life.

“I was so grateful and relieved when they stopped. They really took care of me and their actions restore my faith in humanity,” she said.

The trio had been on their way to lunch when they saw the accident, which took place on the busy Avondale Road, and realised that Lauren was distressed and had head and neck injuries.

Mike Williams explained: “Thankfully, all WPD operational staff are trained in first aid, so we knew exactly what to do.

“We used our vehicle to stop the traffic while waiting for the emergency services. We had to keep talking to Lauren to keep her awake because she complained of feeling sleepy. We also used a foil blanket from our first aid kit and our jackets to keep her warm. We then waited with her until paramedics arrived.”

The fire service cut Lauren from her car to avoid any further damage to her neck, and she says she’s now recovered well and has been given a clean bill of health.

Added Phil Jones: “It’s great to see her looking so well now. We only did what I would like to think anyone else would do in similar circumstances.”
