Bringing youth opera to community groups

South Wales electricity provider Western Power Distribution (WPD) has pledged to provide £2,000 towards staging Carmarthen Youth Opera’s production of South Pacific.

The Youth Opera, which has thrilled audiences over the years with its award winning performances, will perform the show from February 16 to 21 at the town’s Lyric Theatre.

With a membership of over eighty young people whose ages range between three and 21 years, it can call upon a further 100 volunteers, mostly parents and friends, to work tirelessly behind the scenes to help make the productions such a success.

“Having WPD as a major sponsor means we are able to introduce a new service to the community in terms of providing around one hundred and twenty free tickets to various local groups including those who may be disadvantaged, the elderly or have learning difficulties ” said Mike Rogers, Carmarthen Youth Opera.

Dave Brown, WPD’s Distribution Manager for West Wales said: “We believe it is the responsibility of large organisations to play a full and active role in the communities they serve. We are thrilled to be involved with the Youth Opera whose success as a performing society has been built upon dedication, hard work and professionalism over many years.

“We hope everyone who attends the production this year will have a very enjoyable time, and we are also delighted to have the opportunity to help other local community groups.”
