WPD has joined forces with police in the Bristol area following a spate of copper thefts from electricity substations. In one month alone there were three separate incidents in the Sea Mills area.
The joint awareness campaign is appealing to the public to look out for and to report anyone seen acting suspiciously near WPD infrastructure like substations.
PC Andy Stamp from Avon & Somerset Constabulary based at Avonmouth explained: “We hope that we can increase the public’s awareness of what to be looking out for and help minimise the risks to the wider community.”

Gwyn Jones, Distribution Manager for the Bristol area said there had been some very serious incidents involving people breaking into substations.
“Not only are thieves putting their own lives in danger but their actions could also lead to more serious incidents that affect innocent people. We hope our partnership with the police will cut the number of incidents and help secure criminal proceedings against those responsible.”
