Students Kick Start Eco School
Young students at St Kew Community Primary School in Cornwall are leading the way in their attempt to make their school an Eco School.
With help from local electricity company Western Power Distribution (WPD) they have got off to a great start and recently took delivery of some useful tools to help them with their task.
After forming an Eco Club, the students have focussed on 3 themes to kick start their Eco status, these are; litter, water usage and energy consumption. With a donation from WPD the Eco Club purchased a colourful litter bin for the playground with some litter pickers, some eco buttons that are plugged into computers and puts them into a low energy state when not in use, an energy monitor to see how much energy they have used and saved, plus some environmental playground signs reminding people how to be eco friendly.
Lianne Sproull, Chair of Governors at the school approached WPD seeking support and commented: “St Kew is a fairly small rural school with an active PTA but it was hard to find additional funds to really kick start the Eco Club wish list, so we were all delighted when Western Power donated the equipment listed above.”
It is now over to the Eco Club and students to make a positive impact and continue the enthusiastic approach adopted so far.
