Clever metering technology courtesy of WPD is helping large commercial customers from all corners of the UK save money by controlling their energy bills more effectively.
WPD’s Smart Metering team is responsible for installing and maintaining smart meter technology which can capture a business’s energy consumption data every half hour and relay it back quickly.
And because customers receive feedback in a timely way – the meters send back daily data which updates web services and emails automatically – they can manage their consumption levels more effectively and save money.
The system is so effective that if the lights were left on in a building over night the customer would get an email which is delivered automatically when energy consumption rises above certain levels.
Some of WPD's high street customers have saved 15% of their total energy costs just by encouraging managers to be sensible about how and when to use store lighting.
