Touch of sparkle for sick tots

Staff at Western Power Distribution (WPD), the electricity distribution business, made a bit of a festive splash in the run up to Christmas to raise cash for sick and premature babies.
The colleagues from WPD’s Bristol headquarters draped themselves in tinsel as part of their fundraising for the Cots for Tots Appeal – which aims to help expand the neonatal intensive care unit at the city’s St Michael’s Hospital.
Tinsel for Tots was an Appeal initiative to encourage fundraisers to wear tinsel to work, school or any sporting event and then donate just £1 to the cause.
Tracy Carr, WPD’s Community Liaison Officer explained: “Our staff have supported the Appeal for over 12 years now and have so far donated over £110,000 with various activities including a regular Grand Appeal Lottery which many pay into from their monthly salaries.
“They always get behind the various fundraising activities that are organised so support for the Tinsel for Tots campaign needed little encouragement. It’s such a worthwhile cause which can have such a positive impact on the lives of tiny babies and their families. Thanks to everyone’s support WPD staff managed to raise £390.”
Sarah Vipond, Corporate & Major Donor Partnerships Manager for The Appeal said: “We are trying to encourage people across the South West of England and South Wales to support this campaign. While the hospital is based in Bristol, sick babies from the other areas are often transferred to the hospital for the specialist care it provides.
“Sadly some parents can be here for months which can be both stressful and expensive if they have to find accommodation nearby. Providing some family rooms near to the hospital will give parents a break from the Unit and an opportunity to spend time with other family members including other children.”
