Emergency Cable Repairs

Essential repairs to an underground electricity cable in Silver Street is to result in some road closures for two nights in Lincoln this week.

The work involves digging and permanently repairing a faulty cable which supplies electricity to some local businesses in the area.

The work is taking place on Silver Street at the junction with Free School Lane on the nights of Wednesday 21 February and Thursday 22 February between 8pm and 6am.

In order for engineers to work safely, there will be road closures affecting Silver Street at the Free School Lane junction, Mint Street, Mint Lane, Bank Street and Free School Lane, as well as a section of Saltergate and St Swithins Square. A diversion will be in place around Wigford Way and St Mary’s Street during these times.

David Naunton from Western Power Distribution said: “The work is necessary for us to maintain the security of electricity supplies in the area. We’ve been liaising with Lincolnshire Highways to agree the times of our work. We’ll also be writing to advise local homes and businesses affected.

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience that this work may cause,” Mr Naunton added.

Power supplies are not being affected while the work is taking place.
