Powerful investment for Oakham

Over £350,000 is being spent to further improve power supplies in Oakham, Rutland.

This new initiative, which is due to start on February 6, 2017, involves the reinforcement and renewal of electricity cables in Oakham Town Centre. Around 2km of cables are due to be replaced in the Market Place, on High Street and Westgate and a new substation will be installed at Oakham Castle. This will help to further improve supply reliability to nearly 800 properties in the town centre.

“This investment will help to safeguard electricity supplies for our customers in the region for years to come by improving the infrastructure and security of our network,” said Mark Baxter, WPD’s Team Manager.

The work is expected to take four months to complete. During this time, traffic management will be in place to enable our contractors Morrison Utilities Services to install the cables. Signed diversions will be in place as required.

Added Mark: “Our aim is to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum. We have been working with Rutland County Council and Severn Trent to schedule our works to minimise the inconvenience in the area. We will also be keeping customers and business along the route informed by letter and by visits from WPD staff.”

Local residents have been informed of the work by letter and are invited to contact us if they have any questions on 0800 096 3080.
