The Trainee Engineer scheme is currently closed.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to join our formal training scheme to become a Trainee Engineer. The intention of this scheme is that applicants can progress towards the role of an Engineering Specialist.

The role of a Trainee Engineer involves training to enable you to specialise in electrical fitting, cables, overhead lines, plant, civils, protection activities, together with planning and network design services, and the installation and commissioning of complex schemes on the network and at operational sites.

Successful candidates will have at least two ‘A’ levels at grades A* - C in Mathematics and A* - D Physics
Or
a HNC/HND in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
Or
a degree in a Maths or Physics discipline.

Please ensure that you provide details of your qualifications on your application form, and be prepared to provide proof of these qualifications upon request.  You must also clearly state the location that you wish to apply for.

Training will be provided on-the-job and during formal courses held at one of our Training Centres at Taunton or Tipton.  Successful candidates will also be expected, if not already attained, to study for, and achieve a HNC in Electrical Engineering qualification.  The training programme will take five years to complete.

The majority of the on-the-job training will take place within local teams, but you may be required to undertake placements at other locations across the WPD service area, so you need to be flexible and able to travel.
