Community Energy Schemes
Guidance on getting a connection
WPD have commissioned a guide to help those who are interested in developing a community energy scheme and are looking to get an electricity connection to our network.
The guide covers a range of sizes of schemes with an overview of the application process and where to find further information.

Energy storage guide for communities and independent developers
Regen and the Energy Networks Association have worked together to produce a ‘Rough Guide to Engaging Communities in Energy Network Innovation’ and ‘Electricity storage guide for communities and independent developers’.
The network is changing from a centralised system with a handful of large power station to a distributed network with over one million smaller renewable generators. This creates challenges for the national grid and distribution network operators (DNOs) who have to balance supply and demand with the need to keep the lights on.
The guide to engaging communities explores how DNO’s can positively engage local communities in innovation and how communities can get themselves in the best position to grasp the opportunity. A copy of the guide can be downloaded here
and viewed below.
The guide to electricity storage is an introduction to the area of electricity storage and is aimed at community energy groups and independent developers who are looking to develop electricity storage projects and want to know how to get connected to the network. A copy of the guide can be downloaded here
and viewed below.
Regen have produced a series of animations for Western Power Distribution (WPD), that describe innovative ways of connecting, supplying and managing the electricity network.
