Allocation and reservation of capacity

Network capacity allocation and reservation webinar

We previously consulted with stakeholders on a proposed approach to the way in which we allocate and reserve network capacity to customers requiring multiple new electricity connections within a defined development area. We delayed implementation whilst we discussed a number of stakeholder queries with the proposals and will now look to implement a revised version of the process. Our aim is to provide customers who hold an offer for connection with a reasonable level of assurance that the capacity that they have requested will be available for their use during a prescribed period, whilst at the same time, protect other customers who have a more pressing need for capacity and face having to pay a higher connection charge for reinforcement works deemed necessary due to existing capacity being reserved by others.

The revised process will be implemented from Monday 23rd November 2020.

  • We held a webinar on the 23rd September, setting out our revised proposals and implementation date. A recording of the webinar is available here.

A copy of the slides utilised during the webinar presentation are available here.

  • We have developed a brief guidance document to outline the changes being made to policy and process on the reservation and allocation of capacity. You can view the document here.

  • We have produced an FAQ document in response to questions raised following our recent webinar. As the revised process embeds itself, we will continue to respond to queries and incorporate them into this document.
