Changing your connection

The Maximum import Capacity (MIC) and Maximum Export Capacity (MEC) is measured in kVA and is a value agreed between you and us for the capacity of your connection. This value is stated in your connection agreement where applicable.

These MIC and MEC quantities are also known as Authorised Supply Capacity (ASC) for import and export. They may also be included in your electricity supply contract with your chosen supplier. Where you require a change to these values because you are planning to install or remove equipment that may affect your capacity requirement, you may need to contact us in advance to agree this change.

Increases in agreed capacity and additional equipment

It is important that you notify us if:

  • You are proposing to increase the electrical load required by your installation, or;
  • You are connecting additional equipment such as motors or welders that may adversely affect the voltage.

This allows us to check that we can supply your installation safely and ensures that adequate voltage levels are maintained.

We will need to make an assessment of your requirements prior to agreeing an increase in your agreed capacity or the addition of potentially disturbing equipment such as motors and welders. To enable this, you will need to submit an application for connection.

Once we have completed our assessment, we will confirm whether the capacity is available or if we need to carry out works on your connection and/or the network. Any works required will incur a cost in accordance with our published Connection Charging Methodology statements.

If required, we will issue a revised Connection Agreement for you to sign and return which will reflect your new agreed capacity.

To apply, please visit our New Connections pages and select the type of connection you required.

Decreases in agreed capacity

Should you wish to decrease your Authorised Supply Capacity, you will need to send us your request which includes:

  • Your MPAN number – this can be found at the top of your bill
  • Company Registration Number and address (if applicable)
  • Site address
  • Contact details
  • Your new proposed capacity

Please forward your request to one of the following:
