Distribution Generation owner/operator forum
We have set up a forum in partnership with Regen aimed at owners and operators of MW scale renewables connected to a WPD network to provide an opportunity for WPD and Distributed Generation (DG) owners/operators to improve communication on issues including:
- WPD work to address grid constraints;
- Improving communication with generators on outages and constraints;
- Potential approaches for forecasting and mitigating outages.
The next meetings of the forum will take place on:
25th April 2019
18th July 2019

As part of the 2017 ICE plan WPD developed a methodology for estimating the lost generation for wind and solar generation sites as a result of outages on the WPD and National Grid systems. This report estimates lost generation in MWh and compares this to the total output of these generation technologies. The report for the first half of 2018 is available here.
WPD is aware of a minor issue with the reporting methodology that means that generation sites that are off supply (i.e. no import or export available) may not always be included in this report. A fix for this issue is being developed and a revised version of the report will be published once it is implemented.
In addition, access to the Western Power Distribution generator portal is available via our website, for visibility for future outages/export constraints and general background information for each generator site. This information is focussed, at the moment, for generator connections at 33kV, 66kV and 132kV.
Please visit generation.westernpower.co.uk for more information.
Should you have not yet signed up to access the generator portal, or if any contact details (and gate access codes etc.) have changed for a generator site within our area please contact Neil Mansell on 02920 535706 or firstname.lastname@example.org (Monday to Friday). Please also ‘copy in’ the appropriate email address for the area in which the generator site is located.
To register for the generator portal, please provide a unique email account for your business which has to be available for all appropriate staff within your business to use and contact Neil Mansell on 02920 535706 or email@example.com (Monday to Friday).
