WPD has processes available to allow appropriately accredited ICPs to carryout service and / or mains connections to WPD’s existing Low Voltage distribution system. Where an agreement is in place then the ICP may operate across each of WPD’s distribution areas to carry out these live jointing activities.
ICP’s wishing to work in our area must be signed up to an agreement with us to do so, the Framework Network Access and Adoption Agreement.
The relevant policy documents relating to live jointing can be access via our technical policy website.
We are currently offering a trial for suitably accredited ICPs to carry out HV jointing to the existing WPD network. This activity can either be carried out under WPD Distribution Safety Rules or under the ICP's safety rules. The ICP will be required to undertake all relevant operational work including taking operational control of the designated section of the network. The repositioning of open point(s) on the network will continue to be undertaken by WPD. The Agreement for network access and adoption covering this trial can be found by clicking here.

New entrants to the competitive unmetered connections market have requested information on the processes required to commence undertaking this type of work on WPD’s network. As a result, we have produced a guidance document which provides an overview of the process and quick links to relevant information, such as the Lloyds Register and samples of WPD’s agreements.
A copy of the guidance can be viewed here.
