Guidance for connecting generation and energy storage

Generation and energy storage systems have specific characteristics that need to be considered before we can connect them to our network.

This section provides information for customers who are considering this option and who need further advice on the procedures that should be followed. These procedures will vary according to the size of generator or energy storage system you are looking to install. The technical requirements for installation is governed by a number of industry Engineering Recommendations application of which will also differ according to size and commissioning date of the system so it is important that customers and installers are aware of these differences.

You can also find information here relating to wider aspects of work we are undertaking in this area, including improving communication with generator owners on outages and constraints, initiatives for recovering unutilised export capacity and processes for finding alternatives to undertaking costly network reinforcement through a ‘Connect and Manage’ solution.
