£220k investment improves local power supply

We have spent £220,000 replacing ten kilometres of overhead line in the region, using new insulated cables to better withstand adverse weather conditions and reduce the likelihood of power cuts. This will benefit over 400 properties in the area.

We advise that the final stages of the work will be completed next week, with the final section of overhead line being replaced near the Station Road junction where it meets Leek Road and Clay Lake. The work is to take place on Tuesday 27th and Thursday29th August, between 8am and 6pm, where four-way traffic lights will be in position.

Andy Pickering, WPD’s Distribution Manager for Stoke said: “This is a busy stretch of road and we have been working closely with Leek Council, who asked us to carry out this work during the school holidays to minimise traffic disruption. With this junction being so busy it is likely to cause some inconvenience to commuters while this work is happening. We apologise for any inconvenience, but it will safeguard electricity supplies in the region for years to come.”
