150,000 WPD customers reconnected following storms

From late Friday afternoon into Saturday, strong winds with gusts of over 80 mph affected parts of our network which included the South West, South Wales and the Midlands.

Some power lines were damaged by fallen trees, branches and other wind-borne debris which affected power supplies to some of our customers.

Our engineers continued to work tirelessly to restore power to homes and businesses in what were again extremely challenging conditions. Our priority is always to restore customers as quickly as possible.

In anticipation of this forecasted weather, our depots again remained open 24 hours and additional operational and contact centre staff were made available to deal with electricity network issues. We continued to text customers whose supplies have been affected. We also responded to over 35,00 customers and proactively contacted over 3,000 customers - instigating almost 2,500 calls to vulnerable customers.

We also had flood response vehicles and crews available to safeguard supplies, as well as our fleet of helicopters which have been available for post-fault patrols and to help restore supplies quicker.

Further updates were provided via our Twitter account @wpduk, with live power cut information also available through this website.
