Boost to Rugby power network

Work is due to begin on a £150,000 scheme to boost the reliability of power supplies for 2,800 customers in Rugby.

Since the lockdown we have been carrying out essential work only – responding to power cuts and limiting planned work to projects that ensure safety or network reliability. This scheme, which will see work being carried out along Bilton Lane, Lawford Road and Rugby Road, has been identified as essential to ensure network reliability for customers.

Pravin Lad, Team Manager for South East Warwickshire, said: “We have been in consultation with Warwickshire County Council, local schools and Cemex to identify the best way of keeping disruption to a minimum during these works.

“To ensure the safety of the public and our contractors we will be using temporary traffic lights. To minimise disruption, these will be controlled manually or removed at peak times. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused while this work is taking place.”

From 1 June, WPD’s contractor M&A Doocey will be carrying out excavation work to install ducts and cable laying works, starting on Bilton Lane at its junction with Calvestone Road, crossing the Western Relief Road and continuing on Bilton Lane before joining Rugby Road and Lawford Road. At certain points on the route additional excavation works to install joints and carry out testing work will be required. It is expected the scheme will take around 13 weeks.
