Buzzing with Knowledge

Avon Wildlife Trust and Western Power Distribution joined forces to introduce the children to a colony of bees which included one queen bee and 40 worker bees. They discovered the value of pollinators and learnt how to make a difference by planting certain types of flowers and avoid the use of chemicals in gardens.

Julie Doherty from AWT explains: “The response from the children has been amazing. They have gained so much from being able to take a close look at a queen bee and her workers and finding out more about the life cycle and how bees play such a vital role in global food production.

We are grateful to Western Power Distribution for the financial support which made this project possible and giving the young people of Bristol such a hands-on experience to remember.”

A total of nine schools took part in this experience.
