Cable work kickstarts junction improvements

Essential work has begun to re-site electricity cables which will pave the way for road improvements at a busy junction in Derby. The new cabling at the junction of Osmaston Park Road, Sinfin Lane, Newdigate Street and Balaclava Road is being carried out by our engineers. The work is being undertaken at the request of a local developer which has scheduled improvements to the junction. Starting on 15 April, the four-week project will see our team and our contractors excavating at the junction, in order to divert three 11,000 volt cables.

The majority of the work will be done at night, weekends and during the school Easter break to keep staff safe and avoid traffic disruption. However, the work will involve lane closures around the junction from 15 to 26 April. Four-way temporary traffic signals will be in place at the location from 26 April to 17 May to help keep traffic moving.

Tim Jackson, Team Manager for Derby, said: “In order to minimise disruption to residents and traffic in the area, we have liaised closely with Derby City Council to determine the best time to do the works. We have also contacted residents and businesses likely to be affected to forewarn them about the work and apologise for any inconvenience it may cause.”

22, 23 and 24 April; 29 April to 3 May; 6 May to 10 May
