Students swap the classroom for the golf course!

Students from Caegarw Primary School in Rhondda Cynon Taff avoided the bunkers but found themselves in the rough when out for a spot of tree planting!

Students, volunteers and Groundwork Wales were joined by Jeremy Jacobs, WPD Technician from nearby Merthyr depot during their busy planting session.

Thanks to our partnership with Groundwork Wales, 800 whips were planted on public rights of way at Mountain Ash Golf Club with the help of these energetic students and volunteers. Holly, hawthorn and rowan were just a few of the varieties planted.

Tracy Carr, Corporate Communications Officer for Western Power Distribution said: “Our tree planting scheme is well established."

"We aim to plant more than 5,000 native whips and trees each year."

She went on to say, “Trees can provide food and shelter for wildlife, improve visual amenity and of course act as effective air filters. We hope those involved in the planting come back and visit over the years and see these once established.”
