V2G technology trial

We’re testing vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology to see what impact it has on our low voltage network.

Three units have been installed at homes in Derby, Taunton and Bristol. Innovation and Low Carbon Network Engineer Ricky Duke said: “We have chosen the locations of the units very carefully.

“One is near a substation, one on an older part of the network and the third on a modern part.

“During the trial we will be moving the monitoring equipment so we can test for voltage fluctuation and harmonics on all parts of the network the V2G unit is connected to.”

V2G technology has been promoted as a way of giving customers ultimate control of their energy by using their electric vehicle as a mini power station.
