A sneak '3 peaks' into training

Cardiff & Bristol based colleagues from electricity business Western Power Distribution (WPD) are getting switched on in readiness for this year’s St David’s Hospice Care’s Three Peaks of Wales Challenge.

It’s the eighth successive year that the company, which has bases across South Wales and the South West, has put its energy behind the gruelling endurance charity challenge.

So far, eight staff have signed up to take part in the challenge which is being staged on Saturday, June 27 when teams of four will scale three of Wales’ tallest peaks – Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen-y-Fan in a single day.

As well as being the event’s main sponsor, WPD also encourages its staff to take an active part – like Technician Nigel Minton who explained:“Both teams are now training regularly. We’re also planning a dry run on each of the peaks before tackling them all in one go on the day.

“We’re not underestimating the challenge we have set ourselves, but it’s a great cause because St David’s Hospice care for people suffering from progressive, life threatening illnesses and if we can help raise funds and get fit in the process then that’s a bonus.”

St David's Foundation Hospice Care provides free specialist care to more than 2,800 people with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses and their families in the counties of Newport, Monmouthshire, Caerphilly and Torfaen.
