A new age for Hathersage

Over £400,000 is being spent on a major initiative to boost power supplies in Hathersage.

We are committed to investing in our network to further improve supply reliability and customer service levels.

The first stage of this new initiative which started on November 16, 2015 involves the upgrading of equipment in two substations on Main Street and the installation of around 300metres of underground cable.

The second phase of the work which is due to start in the early part of 2016, involves the installation of 800metres of high voltage underground cables on Main Road in Hathersage. This will enable the circuit to be reconfigured, so that fewer customers will be affected when a fault occurs.

The circuit will also be fitted with remote controlled equipment which will enable power to be re-routed to an alternative circuit in the event of a fault, minimising any disruption to customers’ electricity supplies.

Once complete, this work will help to further safeguard supply reliability to more than 1,200 customers in the area.

“It ensures that we can provide a high level of service to these areas in the long term by improving the infrastructure and security of our electricity network,” said Nigel Spalding, WPD’s Team Manager for the area.

“While this work is being undertaken, our aim is to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum. We have been speaking with Derbyshire County Council, Highways, Hathersage Parish Council and Peak Park to agree on a cable route and road diversions which create the least disruption for traffic flow in the area. We have also kept customers and businesses along the route informed by letter,” he said.

The project forms part of our commitment to provide a consistently high level of service to customers. Around £2billion will be invested on our electricity network between 2010 and 2015.
