Laughter is on the menu

The Gloucestershire Deaf Association (GDA) staged a comedy night with a difference on Friday night – it was performed completely in sign language.

The event brought together a group of deaf comedians known as Improv Comedy, who filled the packed community centre in Gloucester with laughter. The event, which was sponsored by Western Power Distribution, kicks off a series of events this year as part of GDA’s ‘Hands Up Festival’ which is aimed at bringing the local hearing impaired community together and engage them in a range of activities.

Reg Cobb, Project Developer at GDA said “Being able to bring events like this comedy evening to our local deaf community is fantastic and our sincere thanks to WPD for making it happen. We are delighted to have the opportunity to be able to showcase deaf talents from around the country and hope that tonight and our other ‘Hands Up Festival’ events will continue to inspire and engage our community.”

Suzanne Park-Davies from WPD attended the evening. “We’re really pleased to be supporting the GDA with their Comedy Night. It is a great opportunity to bring people together and fantastic to see smiles on so many faces. We look to support the communities that we serve where we can and we look forward to continuing our longstanding relationship with the GDA.”
