St Margaret's Hospice Need Your Support!

Our apprentices will be pounding the streets of Somerset this week with the aim of posting 10,000 charity collection bags to local homes, all in aid of St. Margaret’s Hospice.

We have partnered with the hospice for their annual ‘Apprentice Challenge’ and will also be creating a new storage and racking system at the hospice’s regional distribution centre over the four day event.

Colleagues from WPD in Taunton have been busy collecting ‘pre-loved’ items from staff around the business ready to despatch to the St Margaret’s Hospice distribution centre.

Darren Berry, one of our WPD trainers who co-ordinated the project explains: “The challenge is a great opportunity for our new apprentices to grow and develop individually and bond as a team, while also giving some valuable support to the local community.”

Susan Kerber, Retail Business Support Manager for the Hospice shops said: “The work at the distribution centre will mean we can replenish stock in each of the shops much quicker and provide more choice to our customers. We are excited about this project and what it will mean for the services we provide to patients and their families.”

Did you know it costs £12 million each year to provide care and support to more than 3,800 patients at St. Margaret’s Hospice? 31% of the funding required comes from the many charity shops dotted around the county and each one relies on the generosity of local people who donate ‘pre-loved’ clothing and bric-a-brac to be resold.

If you live in the following areas, please look out for one of the collection bags which will be collected within a couple of days from your doorstep. The locations will include: Cotford St Luke; Norton Fitzwarren; Monkton Heathfield; Galmington; Wilton; Blackbrook; Staplegrove; Wilstock Village and Stockmoor Village.

Final note to remember:On average, every bag of good quality donations generates £25 in the hospice shops which will fund one hour of care for a patient in the hospice.
