Caitlin Davies, of Mount Street Primary School, won first prize in the nine to eleven-year-old category and was also declared the competition’s overall winner.

She received a cash prize of £30 plus £100 for her school, and her design will also be used as the Society’s official Christmas card for 2015 and will be on sale at the Society’s Winter Fair.

Her fellow successful pupils were: Aaliyah James, first prize in the five to eight-year-old category, winning £30 plus £100 for the school, Alice Davies, second prize in the nine to eleven-year-old age category, winning £20, and Caled Thomas, a third prize of £15. Pupil Jenna Welch was awarded a highly commended in the same category.

Sponsored by WPD, the competition attracted over 600 hundred young artists from 16 schools from across Wales. Pupils were invited to use their skill and imagination to design a painting or drawing illustrating ‘What Christmas Means to Me’.

Phil Davies, WPD’s Network Services Manager for Wales, who presented the young artists with their prizes, praised the excellent standard of entries: “We’ve been sponsoring this competition now for over 15 years and each year the youngsters manage to delight us with their creative ideas.”

During the Show, prize-winning posters were displayed at Western Power Distribution’s award-winning display stand.
