Deaf Awareness Week 2017

This week we are proud to support Deaf Awareness Week, as promoted by the UK Council on Deafness.

From 15-21 May Deaf Awareness Week will celebrate collaborative work that has made a difference for people who are deaf or have a hearing loss.

Deaf Awareness Week is also an opportunity to raise awareness that 1 in 6 people in the UK are deaf or have a hearing loss.

Members of the UK Council on Deafness and others have united behind a common purpose and work is ongoing to:

  • Raise awareness;
  • Improve access to education and employment;
  • Make sure people have the information they need;
  • Inform government and the public about deafness and hearing loss;
  • Educate people about the importance of preventing hearing loss; and
  • Improve the quality of services for people who are deaf or have a hearing loss.
Western Power Distribution is delighted to have once again been awarded the ‘Louder than Words’ Charter Mark award, which demonstrates our commitment to meeting the access needs of customers who are deaf or have hearing loss.

We have a range of communication methods and services in place that aim to help deaf and hearing impaired customers contact us in a power cut or if they have any query relating to their electricity supply. For further details please click on our accessibility page.

We are using Deaf Awareness Week to raise the profile of deafness across our region and will be providing useful information and making announcements on some exciting initiatives we’re taking part in during this week via our Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn pages.
