60 Second Interview

Buyer - Adrian Law

What’s your career background?  I have been involved in Procurement since 1991 in various industries including retail and manufacturing and employed in Utility industry since 2004. I joined the company in 2008 as a Category Manager within the Services Procurement Team and was appointed to a Buyer in the Major Projects team in September 2011. I am also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.

What does your role entail? I am involved with the tendering and award of Major Project works on the overhead line, cable laying, electrical substation installation and substation civils works projects. I identify and source competent contractors and suppliers for Major Project activities, ensuring that the contractors and suppliers comply with our policies and standard techniques. I also ensure we comply with the EU regulations and take part in contractor review meetings.

What was your involvement in this project? I worked with the Primary System Design team and Project Engineer to ensure all deadlines were achieved and budget constraints were met. I prepared the commercial documents and issued the Invitation to Tender to the contractor, as well as managing the commercial process and organising and managing the contract award.

What do you enjoy most about the job? I enjoy the variety of work and the interaction with the different people I deal with, as well as the satisfaction of seeing a job through from the planning stage to completion.

What do you like to do outside of work? As I’m too old to play football now, I enjoy watching it and am a season ticket holder at West Bromwich Albion. I like walking and have two Springer Spaniels who keep me company on walks. I love travelling and have recently enjoyed the delights that France has to offer, especially the cheese and wine!
