A Royal scoop

Artistic pupils from a Brecon school have scooped top prizes in this year’s Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s annual Children’s Art and Design Competition which we sponsor.

Each year the competition attracts hundreds of entries from young artists across Wales. Pupils are invited to use their skill and imagination to design a painting or drawing illustrating ‘What Christmas Means to Me’.

Eva Lornie a pupil at Mount Street Junior School, Brecon, was declared the overall winner of the competition. She also won first prize in the nine to eleven-year-old category. Eva received a cash prize of £30, and £100 for her school.

Eva’s design will also be used as the Society’s official Christmas card for 2017 and will be on sale at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair in December.

Other winners from Mount Street Junior School in this category included Josh Davies, who received a second prize of £20 and Isla Mae Burgess who came third and received £15.

Finley Ben Mason from Builth Wells Primary School, Annie Powell from Ysgol Dolafon, Llanwrtyd Wells and Sagan Gaha from Mount Street Junior school were all
highly commended in the same category.

Mount Street Juniors also won the prizes in the five to eight-year-old category where Lily May James was awarded a first prize of £30 and £100 for her school.Fellow pupil Nia Evans, received a second prize of £20 while Jessie Davies, from Llanelwedd Primary School was awarded a 3rd place and a cash prize of £15.

Phil Davies, WPD’s Network Services Manager for Wales, who presented the youngsters with their prizes, praised the excellent standard of entries: “We’ve been sponsoring this competition now for 17 years and each year the children manage to delight us with their creative ideas.”

During the Show, prize-winning posters were displayed at our display stand.
