Be winter ready

Our teams are on hand to offer help and support in the event of bad weather and power cuts – but you can also take some simple steps to help make sure you're winter ready.

You can prepare for winter by:

  • Keeping the free emergency number handy in case of disruption to their energy supplies. Call 105 for free at any time to report a power cut
  • Making provisions for a power cut. These include keeping a torch and analogue phone handy (cordless or digital phones don’t work in a power cut) and having an external battery charging pack available to charge smart phones and tablets.
  • Signing up to our Priority Services Register (PSR), if you think you may need extra support in the event of a power cut. Our free PSR service is open to anyone who is elderly, ill, disabled or relies on power for medical equipment. Check if you are eligible by visiting our PSR page.
  • Keeping an eye on neighbours or checking in with elderly relatives to make sure they’re warm and well. You can also sign up loved ones to the PSR for extra peace of mind, if you think they may be eligible.

We believe everyone should have a warm and happy home so we’re doing more than ever before to support our customers and tackle fuel poverty.

In our Business Plan for 2023-28, we’ve pledged to help 113,000 fuel poor customers to save £60 million on their energy bills over five years and to offer 600,000 smart energy action plans.
