Carbon Tracer App - Version 2 now live!

Our Carbon Tracer app and website allows interested customers to view the composition and carbon intensity of their electricity supply. Customers may then become more informed about this important subject, potentially adjusting their behaviour, if they wish to do so, to move some of their energy-consuming tasks, e.g. Using the washing machine, to ‘better’ times (for example, when there is a greener mix or away from peak loading of the network).

Not only can customers see data at the current time, customers can also see a future projection and past history (each of seven days).

We have been working on bettering the app for our customers by making it easier to use and more informative.  The following new functions have been introduced:

  • The use of more colour shades to show the carbon intensity on the NOW, FORECAST and HISTORY screen. We previously only used red, amber and green but now customers can see shades of red, amber and green, and have an enhanced visual representation as the carbon intensity changes during the day.
  • “Notifications” have been added to inform the user of the app (not the website) when the carbon intensity is at a level that they can choose to be notified about, and this can be set in advance.  This means customers will not have to interact with the app and chase the information, it is delivered to them for them to act on.
  • We have brought the carbon intensity banding levels into line with the Government targets for improving our energy profiles and efficiency.
  • We have improved the way we echo back postcodes entered by the user.
  • Other housekeeping updates to keep the software current and secure.
