Midnight motorway

While most of us were tucked up in our beds for the night, our engineers were busy taking down overhead power lines which spanned the M32 in Bristol between junctions one and two.

Before shot - spans of cable over the M32.

The work had to take place during a total motorway closure at night for safety reasons to minimise disruptions to commuters who use the very busy motorway.

Dave Simons, Team Manager in Bristol explained: “The removal of the power lines is to enable the creation of a bus-only junction that will allow the new MetroBus services to access the University of the West of England and on through to the Bradley Stoke area directly from the M32, avoiding congestion at junction one.

“I’m not sure I have ever seen the motorway so quiet.”

This section of the electricity network has now been rerouted underground and will not affect supplies to customers in the area.

After shot - cables are gone allowing the Contractor to prepare the reopening of the motorway before the morning rush hour.
