Proud sponsors of Teenchef

Western Power Distribution (WPD) has been confirmed as the official sponsor for the Newport Food Festival’s Teenchef competition 2014.

Teenchef sees youngsters from youth groups across Newport go head-to-head in a cooking competition. The children are allocated a set budget and have to prepare, cook and present a main meal for two people in just 45-minutes.

Maurice Eshelby, Distribution Manager for East Wales said: “We are pleased to be associated with the Newport Food Festival, and to sponsor the Teenchef competition.

“Safety is very important to us, and we hope by supporting Teenchef we can help raise awareness of food education and safety in the kitchen. We believe supporting events like Teenchef can help and encourage young people to take an active interest in the preparation of food, which will enable them to make healthy choices throughout their lives.

“Teenchef is an exciting and innovative part of the Food Festival catering for youngsters with a wide range of culinary skills. Good luck to all those taking part.”

Newport City Council cabinet member for skills and work, Councillor Deb Davies, said: “The Teenchef competition is an important part of the Newport Food Festival. It gives youngsters the chance to learn about nutrition, cooking with a set budget as well as developing their cooking skills and hopefully an interest in what a career in catering involves.

“At the start of this year’s competition I am delighted that WPD has pledged its support to the competition and look forward to working with them. I would also like to wish all those taking part the best of luck.”
