School nature garden receives extra support

A tremendous team effort helped the students at Saltford Primary School plant up 15 native trees and 50 metres of hedging around a new nature garden.

Students and volunteers are joined by Les Baker and Tom Farmer (red jacket) from WPD.

The garden is also home to an occupied badger sett which had to be avoided in the development of the new garden under the careful guidance of conservation group The Conservation Volunteers.

Harry Coles from TCV who co-ordinates the tree planting partnership with ourselves said: “We had an amazing amount of volunteers join in with the students along with Les and Tom from WPD. This is an impressive start to a longer term plan that will help the children develop their green fingers and create a haven for wildlife.”

Students and volunteers pool their resources to make an instant impact.
