We have recently supported a local Nottinghamshire scout group, not only by donating money towards their scout hut but also by providing useful electricity safety advice.
After earning a £500 bonus for good team safety performance, our Plant Centre team based in Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire, decided to donate the money to the 2nd Hucknall Scouts.

Wayne Haigh, WPD’s Plant Centre Manager explained: “We have supported local organisations in the past and so when a member of the team suggested the local scout group we immediately agreed and could not be happier with our choice. We’re so pleased to help and meet the group to see where the money will go.”
Upon presenting the cheque to the scouts, Wayne delivered an educational safety talk, explaining how electricity is produced and delivered, and warning about the hazards of electricity to 55 children of various ages. The talk included an interactive display ‘mock substation’ illustrating the dangers of tampering with electrical equipment.
Jane Clifton from the Hucknall Scout Group said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Western Power Distribution for their contribution to thescout hut and the time taken to advise the children on safety around electricity. The beaver scouts really enjoyed the experience.”
The scouts experience a 'mock shock' which replicates what might happen if an electricity substation was tampered with.
