Seeing the fruits of their labour

A combined effort at Crockerne Primary School in North Somerset left a lasting impression on the children and the school grounds recently.

Children were helped with the planting from left, Jon Attwood, Gareth Bridges from WPD, and their teacher.

We made a donation to Crockerne Primary School and pupils spent an afternoon in the spring sunshine planting up their orchard.

Jon Attwood from the Forest of Avon Trust who supplied the fruit trees explained: “In my experience children like nothing more than getting dirty while getting stuck in to something worthwhile.

“Trees have many benefits including shade and screening when fully grown as well as providing a useful food source to honey-bees and insects.

“These trees will have an instant impact when they start to blossom. The children can nurture them, watch them grow and before too long enjoy the fruits they provide too.”

Crockerne Primary was just one of the schools to benefit from our partnership with the Forest of Avon Trust.

Trees planted included a mixture of cherries, apples, pears and plums.
