We're expanding our flexibility offering

We have published our intention to procure 184MW of demand response services across our network.

The 184MW is across 17 zones which all have a need within 2019/20. We have also signposted ongoing needs to 2023/24.

We have a postcode checker available to help interested parties determine if they have a suitable site inside these zones.

Full details of the requirements in each zone have been published on our Flexible Power website, www.flexiblepower.co.uk. The information includes: zone locations, which months each zone needs flexibility, the required availability windows and the MWhs needed within each month.

WPD’s Network Strategy Manager Ben Godfrey said: “This latest round of procurement sees our flexibility requirement grow significantly and now includes parts of Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly.

“We’ll also be working alongside Centrica on the Cornwall Local Energy Market which will allow us to see how market platforms can help increase the visibility of flexibility services by different parties and avoid problems when more than one party uses services in the same area.”

A procurement timeline has also been published:

  • 1 July – Flexibility zones published
  • 12 August – Invitation to tender (ITT) issued to all participants who have registered their interest and passed a pre-qualification stage
  • 20 September - ITT deadline
  • 7 October – Procurement results

Potential participants need to register their interest by responding to our procurement notice which is available here.

The Flexible Power team will be holding a number of information events to assist interested parties with the process over the course of July and August.

We have also confirmed that several new zones will be released for procurement in January 2020 as we continue to grow our commitment to flexibility.
