Young artists scoop Royal Welsh prizes

Artistic pupils from a Brecon school have yet again scooped top prizes in this year’s Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s annual Children’s Art and Design Competition sponsored by ourselves.
 
Each year the competition attracts hundreds of entries from young artists across Wales. Pupils are invited to use their skill and imagination to design a painting or drawing illustrating ‘What Christmas Means to Me’.

Josh Davies a pupil at Mount Street Junior School, Brecon, was declared the overall winner of the competition.  He also won first prize in the nine to eleven-year-old category. Josh received a cash prize of £30, and £100 for his school.
 
Ten year-old Josh’s design will also be used as the Society’s official Christmas card for 2018 and will be on sale at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair in November. 
 
Other winners from Mount Street Junior School in this category included Lily May James, who received a second prize of £20.  Three other pupils received highly commended awards they were :Maddox Hainey, Niko Jasinski and Matthew Williams.
 
Huw Thomas, WPD’s Distribution Manager, who presented the youngsters with their prizes, praised the excellent standard of entries: “We’ve been sponsoring this competition now for 18 years and each year the children manage to delight us with their creative ideas.”
 
During the Show, prize-winning posters are displayed at our display stand located on Ave E.
