Young gardeners provide a haven for wildlife

Local wildlife will be flocking to the grounds of Leas Park Junior School in the coming months, thanks to the efforts of the school gardening club and an injection of cash from Western Power Distribution.

Students and teachers have developed a small nature garden which they hope will encourage a greater diversity of wildlife while helping the children develop key skills too.

Liz Worthington, a teacher at the school explains: “We have been working on the garden over the last few months and it was starting to take shape but we needed some funding to really do it justice.

We approached WPD and were delighted when they provided £400 to purchase some of the resources needed to really enhance what we had created. This will be an invaluable resource for all the children to explore and gain an understanding about how to protect our environment for generations to come.”
